How Do Intruder Alarms Work?

Security is important to everyone, whether it’s for our home or business, it’s vital that we feel safe and secure and that our property will be safe when we’re not there. It’s now become a necessity for many people to have intruder burglar alarms fitted to give them that extra peace of mind. The issue however is often that people don’t know what type of alarm they need and whether they should install wireless systems, or not and how the installation is carried out. So which system should you choose and what are the benefits?

Burglar Alarm Types

When we talk about technology we are really spoiled for choice and it’s no different when considering home security. At Vantage Systems we offer wireless and wired alarms, for home and business and we provide a custom installation service to suit you. So what’s available?

Although our wireless intruder  alarm systems are the most popular, we can also offer a wired system to your property but these use a cable between the panel and the detectors, keypads etc which can make installation trickier and result in more disruption, as well as sometimes not being as easy to install within the home or business. However, should you need either or a combination of both, we can install a hybrid offering between wireless and wired which can sometimes be needed if there is a pre-existing alarm system installed but where there is a desire to improve functionality with additional wireless detectors.

Wireless Intruder Alarms

Wireless alarm systems offer an easier and quicker installation which can be less intrusive with little to no wiring.

Our Wireless alarms will consist of a panel normally containing a keypad, internal sounder and a proximity reader which is operated with a tag for arming and disarming the system. This unit would be connected to the mains supply and has a battery back up inside. The rest of the system would normally be wireless.

Most wireless alarms are made up of at least one door contact to the main entrance with a keypad just inside the protected area. Passive infra red (PIRs) or movement sensors would then be placed in and around the property in the necessary risk areas and door contacts to the other external doors. The wireless alarm panel would then communicate with all of the equipment and sensors via radio signals.

These radio signals are not linked to your WIFI or router installation. They are completely independent and work on a secure network. All systems are thoroughly surveyed prior to installation to ensure the radio signals are strong enough for reliable operation of the intruder alarm system.

It is essential they are maintained properly.Ongoing servicing and maintenance support is available 24hrs a day 365 days a year when in contract.

Wired Intruder Alarms

These are still installed for many commercial customers but there is still the consideration of having to conceal and protect cables of course.

Our Wired intruder alarm systems will normally consist of a panel usually tucked away out of sight. This unit would be connected to the mains supply and has a battery back up inside. The intruder alarm system will be controlled by the keypad or keypads and a proximity reader which is operated with a tag or code for arming and disarming the system.

Most wired intruder alarm systems are made up of at least one door contact to the main entrance with a keypad just inside the protected area. Passive infra red (PIRs) or movement sensors would then be placed in and around the property in the necessary risk areas and door contacts to the other external doors. The wired intruder alarm panel would then communicate with all of the equipment and sensors via the cables. There is usually an internal loudspeaker and external warning device. SAB

Commercial Intruder Alarm

Whether you have property on an Industrial estate a business park or in independent building, Vantage Systems provide customers with a custom system design stage, surveying, guidance and advice on the correct solution for your property.
