Why Choose 4K CCTV?
Welcome to the age of advanced video surveillance. As crime rates soar and security concerns grow, it’s essential to stay ahead of the game when it comes to protecting your property or business. That’s where 4K CCTV systems comes in. With its unmatched clarity and unparalleled level of detail, it sets a new standard in video surveillance.
In this fast-paced world, it’s crucial to have a video surveillance system that provides the highest level of security. That’s why a cctv camera 4K system is the game-changer you need. With its cutting-edge technology and ultra-high resolution, you can take surveillance to a whole new level.
At Vantage Systems we believe in providing the most effective solutions to our customers and to meet their needs, wherever possible. Often, the most common question we hear is about 4K images and when you should choose 4K over Full HD. With compression systems providing the ability to record at higher quality levels without the storage restrictions that would typically come with that extra resolution, 4K is the answer.
4K
You’ve probably seen information about 4K in relation to televisions and movies, with cinemas switching over to 4K projectors and TV manufacturers changing their models many years ago to the new standard. With this upgrade in other areas, it was inevitable that camera manufacturers would make the switch over to 4K, including CCTV systems. Ultra high definition provides a resolution of 4096 x 2160. Typically 4K televisions use 3840 x 2160 because this is exactly 4 times the resolution of full HD which is 10920 x 1080. Full 4K resolution is usually seen in the film industry and with full 4k display monitors.
Most CCTV cameras in 4K will operate with a starting minimum resolution of 3840 – 4096 (running up to 2160). This resolution actually equates to 8MP on a standard camera and provides the highest in camera surveillance video quality.
Benefits of 4K CCTV
With CCTV systems, not only does 4K offer sharper resolution and better picture clarity, it also gives more flexibility with what you do after the image is recorded. For instance, zooming into the image will be easier for detail, simply because the base image has a higher resolution to start with. With better resolution you can rely on fewer cameras to record your covered areas, with the assurance that you have the image you need and the level of detail so you can clearly see what’s going on.
The 4K image ultimately gives you 4 times the clarity over standard HD and this also means you can use it as evidentiary footage if necessary, which can always be useful in any legal proceedings or for insurance purposes.
4K Video Size
Storage is a key factor with many CCTV systems. Other than acting as a deterrent, there’s no point in recording footage if you can’t keep a reliable record and backup of that footage. 4K video size will vary but footage will generally take up more storage in its natural uncompressed state, however, most cameras will use a high compression model, like HEVC (high efficiency video coding). This ensures you maintain the quality of footage without taking up too much storage.
4K Monitors
Whilst using 4K cameras to record your CCTV footage provides a higher clarity image, it’s important to note that only 4K monitoring displays will be able to give live feed pictures back in the same recorded resolution of 4096 x 2160. However, you can use a simple monitoring set up with just HD capability to monitor and playback the footage but you wouldn’t have the advantage of viewing it in the higher recorded resolution. It’s recommended to use 4K monitoring screens so that you can take full advantage of the better image quality.
Recording Distance
One of the biggest considerations with CCTV installations tends to be one of recording distance and whether the placement of the cameras are correct for covering the areas that you need. The recording distance with 4K cameras is not normally an issue due to the higher resolution available. This is because technically these cameras can zoom in over large distances and as long as the footage captures the event, you can enlarge a section of the image with great detail, thanks to the superior quality.
Some models can also perform with infrared night vision, giving you 24 hour capability day or night.
Post Production
Another key benefit of 4K recording is the fact that you can use effective post production on the footage due to the sheer volume of data and resolution that you have to play with. This includes using zoomed-in imagery, to brightening and clarifying footage further than what’s initially recorded. The flexibility is a huge selling point for 4K CCTV and when considering your set up, there is just no competition. 4K leads the way in surveillance and the past limitations with full HD are no longer a problem.
